A boxing town par excellence, Grande-Synthe is a breeding ground for talent: from José & Francky Leroy to Virginie Nave or, more recently, Raphaël Tronché; as well as a venue for major events: French heavyweight championship, European middleweight championship, etc. The Dufour Hall, built in 1978, exudes boxing. Boasting the best equipment for the sport, its 20m by 40m practice area and outdoor platform make it the perfect venue for the noble art This certified facility saw several athletes, who came here to prepare, shine at the London Olympics in 2012: Russians Sofya Ochigava (lightweight -60kg) and Nadezda Torlopova (middleweight -75kg) both left with silver medals in their respective category.
